Ximo Flores strikes at the bewildering traditions of the Tomatina, a party celebrated every year in the small town of Bunol near Valencia in Spain where it's a common habit to be covered up with tomatoes up to the nostril... Between seriousness and derisiveness, this tomatina is from another age but still going on, and making the worlwide televisions run, is the starting point of a reflexion on the the body, its ritualisation and its violence. Both sublime and beautiful when the naked red bodies of the two angry performers are sliding on the floor, Especulaciones expresses in two characteristics of the new Iberian wave: denunciation and sense of humour held by a strong sense of aesthetics.
« This clever direction is switching from moments of absurdity, of grotesqueness and of more frightening comedy to others. The members of the audience are finally complety confused. Also, it is punctuated by brilliant moments of unconventional solutions. The final part of the performance is very visual, imaginative and of a deep emotional intensity.
