For its sixteenth edition, the Festival des 7 Collines will offer one more time a singular itinerary through international modern creation. With remain faithful to our usual frame of mind, and keep favouring dance and circus. However the event has no specific limit, no specific theme, and remembers first the audacity and involvement of the artists.
Defying the rules, creating new lines, and offering a common point of view on the world: all the performances planned for this year will play their part. For the majority there will be one main idea: the review and rejection of a trade world from which we have to protect ourselves. From this way the young artists from Antwerp make us shiver with Moscow, showing us the terrifying Russian mafia. The Australians from the company Acrobat, playing with self-derision, try to convince us that the world still has a part of humanity. French artist Mathurin Bolze favours poetry in order to escape the day-to-day life and doubts, as Camille Boitel does with his entertaining circus.

Some approaches deal with the questions of identity or even oppression on a nation, as does amazing South-African dancers Via Katlehong who express their revolt with their lively dance. The identity and desire of asserting oneself in society is also one of the main themes of the local dance company Melting Force. Privacy and the relations between people are the subject of searches; choreographer Louise Lecavalier explores the complexity of relationships. The Belgians Ampe & Garrido and their unlikely duet make a great mockery of the subject. In a nutshell, this new programme is full of surprises. It will begin on July 1st with Salif Keïta’s exceptional concert.
We thank our partners who, thanks to their complicity and involvement, allow us to offer a more complete edition, which grew geographically since the event will take place this year in many towns of the Saint-Etienne surrounding. So we are glad to invite you to attend this sixteenth stimulating and fascinating edition.
